As we know by the teachings of Hazrat Maulana Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar sahab (db), that the safe guarding of eyes is very necessary in every process of our daily life.

It is equally important for persons using internet and it is a major issue as most of the websites have Ads containing unwanted pictures. By following this process, we can make our web browser safe from such content.

It includes customization for both and Users.

For Internet Explorer Users

Step 1: To turn off images:

1. On the Internet Explorer menu bar:

  • Select Tools.
  • Select Internet Options.

2. In the Internet Options dialog box:

  • Select the Advanced tab.

3. On the Advanced tab, under Settings: Multimedia:

  • Turn the Show pictures setting on or off by selecting or clearing its check box.
  • Click OK

Afterwards, to view one image without downloading the other images, right-click on the selected image and then click on Show Image.

Step 2: To turn off flash objects:

1. On the Internet Explorer menu bar:

  • Select Tools.
  • Select Internet Options.

2. In the Internet Options dialog box:

  • Select the Programs tab.

3. On the Programs tab, click Manage Add-ons button:

  • In add-ons list, select Shockwave Flash Object.
  • In Settings panel, click Disable radio button.
  • Click OK.

For Firefox Users

Step 1: ImgLikeOpera allows load only the images that you want in Firefox browser.

NOTE: There is also a functionality to whitelist certain domains, then that it won’t block. Recommended behavior is to block all kind of images and then add proper websites in whitelist.
Tools -> Addons -> ImgLikeOpera -> Options -> Filters

Features:

  • placeholders for blocked images
  • (re)load image from context menu or Ctrl+rightMouseClick;
  • forced expiration time (5 minutes – 3 months);
  • policies for tabs;
  • filters.

You can set one of policies for each tab:

  • don’t load images;
  • load cached images only;
  • load images for the originating Web site only;
  • load all images.

Step 2: Flashblock is an extension for the Mozilla, Firefox, and Netscape browsers that takes a pessimistic approach to dealing with Macromedia Flash content on a webpage and blocks ALL Flash content from loading. It then leaves placeholders on the webpage that allow you to click to download and then view the Flash content.

You can get it from here

NOTE: There is also a functionality to whitelist certain domains, then that it won’t block. Recommended behavior is to block all kind of object and then add proper websites in whitelist.
Tools -> Addons -> Flashblock -> Options -> Whitelist

Flashblock currently blocks the following content types:

  • Macromedia Flash
  • Macromedia Shockwave
  • Macromedia Authorware

      Assalamualaikum warahmatullahe wabarakatuhu!

      i use Google chrome, and i found flash Block and the option for hiding images( with exceptions) really helpful. But i want a way to block all images and show those when right-clicked. Because there are good and bad, both type of images on google.com search, if i keep google.com in exception then it will display bad ones too, and if i block it, it will not show useful ones also. so kindly tel me a way to block all and show on right click.

      opera does not need any extension, the latest opera browser has a menu near the bottom right corner, which says something like view (100%), click on it, and the second option from top says show images, change it to no images or cached images, as per your requirement.

      Jazak Allah

      The best tool which I have found so far to block pictures and flash images in firefox is “image and flash blocker 0.56″.

      Previously I was using imglikeopera tool but I think this tool (image and flash blocker) is more useful than that. Unlike the imglikeopera it immediately block pictures, even loaded pictures.

      You can download it from following link. Its working fine with firefox 3.6

      https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=image%20and%20flash%20blocker

      It is better to have the latest version of imglikeopera installed in firefox, or if someone is having trouble getting the latest version, we can force the old version of imglikeopera to work with latest firefox (usually 3.6.*).

      Step 1: install the mr tech toolkit.
      https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/421/
      restart the browser

      Setp 2: if you have not installed imglikeopera, then install it and check on Override Max Version Compatibility Check before clicking install.

      Step 3: If you have already installed imglikeopera, then in firefox click tools – > addons and find imglikeopera, it will be saying that this addon is not compatible with firefox, right click and select make compatible, this will resolve the problem after restart.

      If anyone happens to be a user of Apple’s Safari browser, then one can use clicktoflash. It is primarily the same thing as Firefox’s FlashBlock addon.

      http://clicktoflash.com – Open/free

      You can also add websites into a whitelist such as khanqah.org, thus flash from khanqah.org would not be blocked automatically.
