As we know by the teachings of Hazrat Maulana Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar sahab (db), that the safe guarding of eyes is very necessary in every process of our daily life.

It is equally important for persons using internet and it is a major issue as most of the websites have Ads containing unwanted pictures. By following this process, we can make our web browser safe from such content.

It includes customization for both and Users.

For Users

Step 1: To turn off images:

1. On the menu bar:

  • Select Tools.
  • Select Internet Options.

2. In the Internet Options dialog box:

  • Select the Advanced tab.

3. On the Advanced tab, under Settings: Multimedia:

  • Turn the Show pictures setting on or off by selecting or clearing its check box.
  • Click OK

Afterwards, to view one image without downloading the other images, right-click on the selected image and then click on Show Image.

Step 2: To turn off flash objects:

1. On the menu bar:

  • Select Tools.
  • Select Internet Options.

2. In the Internet Options dialog box:

  • Select the Programs tab.

3. On the Programs tab, click Manage Add-ons button:

  • In add-ons list, select Shockwave Flash Object.
  • In Settings panel, click Disable radio button.
  • Click OK.

For Users

Step 1: ImgLikeOpera allows load only the images that you want in browser.

NOTE: There is also a functionality to whitelist certain domains, then that it won’t block. Recommended behavior is to block all kind of images and then add proper websites in whitelist.
Tools -> Addons -> ImgLikeOpera -> Options -> Filters

Features:

  • placeholders for blocked images
  • (re)load image from context menu or Ctrl+rightMouseClick;
  • forced expiration time (5 minutes - 3 months);
  • policies for tabs;
  • filters.

You can set one of policies for each tab:

  • don’t load images;
  • load cached images only;
  • load images for the originating Web site only;
  • load all images.

Step 2: Flashblock is an extension for the Mozilla, , and Netscape browsers that takes a pessimistic approach to dealing with Macromedia Flash content on a webpage and blocks ALL Flash content from loading. It then leaves placeholders on the webpage that allow you to click to download and then view the Flash content.

You can get it from here

NOTE: There is also a functionality to whitelist certain domains, then that it won’t block. Recommended behavior is to block all kind of object and then add proper websites in whitelist.
Tools -> Addons -> Flashblock -> Options -> Whitelist

Flashblock currently blocks the following content types:

  • Macromedia Flash
  • Macromedia Shockwave
  • Macromedia Authorware

    Assalam o Alykum,

    If you are installing Opera browser on a Macintosh computer, there are no images, since there is no setup, you just copy the program and it is installed. Perhaps you could add this to you wiki-page, since this is the best option for Mac users.

  20. Murtuza | November 14th, 2008 at %I:%M %p

    Assalam-o-Alikum
    Well there are various ways to block unwanted pictures as stated by other users also but one more simpler and easier way is,

    1)If you have, then Firefox has some good features too. One of them is picture blocking. To block the picture or advertisement, right click on the picture and select Block images from xxx.com( xxx is domain name e.g, google.com). Remember one thing if that website has other images from that domain then those images are also blocked.

    2) In-case of Internet explorer or any other browsers, always there is an other way.

    Another way to do this is by using K9 software. It is free and license for home use only. Check them out they are excellent, Visit the link for more information.

    LINK - http://www1.k9webprotection.com/getk9/index.php

    Visit this website and check out the software they have made for home use protection.
    Thanks.

    Sincerely,
    Murtuza Farooq

    Hope this helped.

    JazakAllah khaira!

    Just a few days back when I told a friend that I dont watch TV anymore and do not look at pictures, he said that how do i avoid them when i’m using internet, and i really wished i knew how to block these pictures… Alhamdulillah, I’ve found the way from this blog.

    If anyone can tell, how to block the ads running on MSN Messenger? That is the last thing i cant get rid of as yet.

    AOA!

  25. Webmaster | December 5th, 2008 at %I:%M %p

    To block the ads in the buddy list window of MSN Live Messenger go to the Control Panel and double-click on Internet Options. Select the Security tab and click on Restricted sites. Now click on the Sites button below and add rad.msn.com to the zone. Click on Close and the ads should disappear.

    You can find more solutions by searching on google with “ad block msn”

    http://www.google.com.pk/search?q=ad+block+msn&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

  26. Basim | December 7th, 2008 at %I:%M %p

    JazakAllah once again
    It worked and now i have also blocked the pictures on my msn.
    Just had a suggestion. It would be great if there could some hotmail or gmail address one could add to his list to get live help from Mufti hazraats/or develop an Islahi ta’aluq.
    I had heard from a friend about someone in UAE doing that- i.e. provide online live access to Mufti Hazrat’s for any help online regarding different problems. I know of many friends who would want to use such facility as there is generally a certain hesitation in new people especially to talk to someone face to face.

    AOA!

    I personally recommend Portable OPERA browser 9.6 version, its fast reliable, block Pictures, Ad, Flash, you can download it from:
    http://opera-usb.com/download/opera963en.zip
    Just unzip on the your computer and run opera.exe from extrated folder, as it is portable version you don’t need to install it, you can even carry this extracted folder in your USB and can also run from USB

    I like it the most, May Allah give me and us the toofeeq to safe guard our eye and hearts

  35. Webmaster | June 13th, 2009 at %I:%M %p

    Walikum Usalam wwb.

    As per our knowledge, best solution so far is to use firefox and use it’s plugin ‘imglikeopera’

    In this plugin, we can have a white list filter so that miage get all opened for that site.

    Also, there is a quick tweak, if you want to load image in that, press CTRL + mouse right click, and it’ll load that image.

    @Others: Please share if any one else got a better solution

    Thanks to Allah Subhan-hu-wa-tala, that showed the right path, I found Alhamdullillah a solution better then the ImgLikeOpera. Here is the link.

    Or you can do it manually by clicking on TOOLS ->ADDON, then write in the search bar TOGGLE ON STATUSBAR

    And again may Allah the most high reward you and those who is helping your and those who is spreading this message protecting our brothers from the evil.
